Football is Kicking Me in the...

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am uber-competitive. To a fault, really. Not one to back down from any challenge, I will learn a game overnight rather than admit I know nothing about it. If I know the game well, you can be sure I will practice until I master it to the best of my abilities.

I have always hung out with the boys and am fairly self-sufficient. When I go fishing, I bait my own hook and gut the fish myself. I can drink with the best of 'em. I will play football, baseball and floor hockey. I was on every conceivable sports team in school. Hell, when I was younger I played pool for a living, now I play poker. That alone speaks for itself.

I play to win, not to sit on the sidelines.

However, due to recent happenings in the NFL world, I find myself in unfamiliar territory. I am losing.

Really Losing.

That doesn't bode well with my psyche. My competitive nature has taken a virtual blow to the gut. I am second from last in the Pauly Pub Football Pool, and that just aint cool my friend. The really sad part is I actually watch football, and not that Canuck stuff, either. However, it just doesn't seem to matter so far this season.

I am the Bobby Baldwin of Sports Bettors.

I feel as though I should have a bubble bath, dress in pink and watch some soap operas. Never before have I felt like such a girl in a man's world.

Time for a pep talk I think (or a whole damn rally) with myself. A little praying, maybe a sacrificial offering to the football gods is in order.

All I know is - it just aint cool.

WPBT Event Tonight

Tonight is the WPBT Tournament on Titan Poker. I wrote the following post for CardSquad, but am copying it here for everyone else:

For those who don't know, the WPBT stands for the World Poker Blogger Tour. It is a large group of poker bloggers and readers that get together many times a year to play against each other for the prize pool and bragging rights. Most of all though, we play just for the fun of it. Seriously, this is the best group of people I have ever met.

We have played for World Series of Poker seats. We have played for the family of Charlie, the poker blogger that touched us all in his recent fight against cancer, which he tragically lost this past summer.

Now, we are playing again Tuesday night. Come join your favorite writers and poker bloggers in a $20 MTT tournament on Titan Poker. Everyone is welcome to play, whether you are a blogger or just a reader. For full details and the password, read
Pauly and Iggy. While you are at it, wish Pauly a Happy Birthday as he turns 33 today! Happy Birthday Doc!

I am putting a personal bounty up. The person who knocks me out of the tournament will receive a gift in the mail from me. Many people tend to sign up at the last minute, so hopefully it will be a full house. Come join
Derek and I from CardSquad, and all the other bloggers as we compete for first place. Hope to see everyone there!

If you have any questions, let me know.

Neglect

Neglect:

1.) To pay little or no attention to; fail to heed; disregard
2.) To fail to care for or attend to properly
3.) To fail to do or carry out, as through carelessness or oversight

Guilty, guilty, guilty.

My blog and I are barely on speaking terms so I thought I had better give it a little time and attention today.

This has been a very busy week. Getting used to working for a living again (what a concept, eh?) has taken a few days to adjust to, but I am happier than I have been in a long time.

I'm still experiencing a good run on the tournaments over at Titan/Noble, and this week have two wins, a 2nd, a 5th, and a 12th which were all in the money. Unfortunately, they were all in small tournaments (except for the 12th place) so the money wasn't overly significant. However, I am certainly not going to complain.

It kills me that I am not going to be playing in the WCOOP final event, unless I happen to actually play a satellite and win my way in. That kind of thing is what I have been exclusively training for, and should be playing in. Unless a miracle happens between now and then though, I will be watching from the sidelines.

Tuesday night is the next WPBT Tournament, so if you haven't already, go see Iggy for details. Also, check out Pauly and his reports from Barcelona (Barcelona - that is just way too cool) as he covers the EPT. Awesome, awesome stuff.

Up Two Hours and I Need a Nap

Can you believe September is almost half over already? Wow...I am in shock. The weekend flew by so fast I barely remember it happening.

Friday night I went to the casino to play in my weekly Calgary tournament, though I didn't do too great. I landed in about 22nd out of 50 to the best of my calculations. I've had a little bit of a bad run this past week, which I am sure is just karma rearing her ugly little head after having two back-to-back stellar ones. Oh well, I laugh in the face of variance, she doesn't frighten me. (Much.) Maybe I will just quietly wait out the swing.

Saturday night I went to my brother's house and we played a home game tournament and he barbequed up some butter chicken and potato/vegetable packs. T'was awesome food, and a great time as always. Thanks also to SirRevAl who stepped up to play a freeroll entry for me that I made but couldn't play in due to the home game. Al kicked all kinds of ass and landed me in the final table. All of us over at my brother's house were actually watching him play, though I couldn't chat to him so he had no idea. Thanks again Al :)

Though I don't want to curse it by saying it - chances are looking good for me to go to Vegas this December. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Shameless Blogger Bonus Code Pimpage

I signed up for Titan Poker yesterday since my Calgary tournament has now switched homes due to the recent Empire takeover of Noble. Let me tell you - this whole Noble/Titan thing is a goldmine.

Seriously.

Play smart, play slow, and the money is there for the taking. I only bought in for $200, but I almost doubled that in 3 hours of $2/4 limit ring games. Not multi-tabling, either - that was all on one table. I don't even play ring games often, but it is hard to refuse these ones. If you are interested, go hit Pauly up for a link to Titan and try it out. 100% bonus, what more can I say.

While you are at it, go hit up my favorite IM-a-shotter Iggy for some links to other sites too.

Am I the only one itching for another WPBT event? I am going through withdrawls...I really miss being able to play against everyone. Also, the fact that the leaderboard needs updating from like, three events ago is gnawing away at me. Does anyone have a list of who placed what? I wouldn't mind updating it, but I need the info.

Long Weekend Over Too Soon

Since I work from home, there wasn't a whole lot of difference between a Tuesday and a Saturday during the summer. Now that school is back in full swing though, I thoroughly appreciated getting to sleep in for three days straight.

Now, at 11pm on Monday night, I find myself wishing for just one more day to laze about in bed all morning, getting up when I feel like it rather than when my alarm shakes me out of a dream. Oh well, back to reality.

I had a good weekend, though it was really busy. Since I began writing for Card Squad last week, I have spent even more time on my computer, though I didn't think that was possible. Working seven days a week is an adjustment, but I am enjoying every moment of the process. I won't for a minute complain about being able to write for a living, from home, at whatever hour I choose - but it is a lot of work.

Fortunately, I managed to get in some poker time this weekend too. I played in a $1000 freeroll on Noble yesterday, which I gained entry to by placing in the top 3 places in a MTT last week. There were 195 players, and I finished in 6th place, making another final table. Last night I went to the casino to play in my weekly live tournament. I didn't do as well there, busting out in the second hour. I decided that I was just going to kick back and have a few beers, and was joined by my brother and several other players where we drank and chatted until almost 2am.

Remember, starting September 12, Stars will be running their Katrina relief tournaments, so sign up for as many as possible. Also, you can check out Wil Wheaton's live blogging reports of the WCOOP over at Card Squad.

Hope everyone had a good long weekend!

New Endeavors

I left a teaser the other day about a job possibility, and the time has come to fill you in. I have decided to take some time in between playing online poker tournaments and blogging here to pursue some other opportunities.

As of today, I am writing for Card Squad, along with Derek, Jen Leo, and Wil Wheaton. Yes, it is true - I am living my dream of being paid to blog. Card Squad belongs to the Weblogs, Inc. network which features over 100 independent, unfiltered bloggers, producing over 1,000 blog posts a week. Our team is striving to make Card Squad a one-stop resource for poker/gaming news and information.

I hope to see you over there leaving comments for myself and the others when you see something you like. A few words go a long way, as we all know. :)

Now I gotta go play some poker!
